S/03 · SITE DEVELOPMENT & DESIGN
Site search, permitting, geotech and RF/DAS design by Ghanaian industry specialists.
// What it is
What the service covers.
Site Development & Design is a consultancy and project delivery service for new or upgraded telecom sites. African Towers provides the full pre-construction work package: coverage modelling and candidate site selection, landowner or building owner negotiation, all permitting and regulatory approvals (NCA, Metropolitan/District Assembly, EPA where required), geotechnical investigation and structural design, civil and compound design, and RF or DAS system design for in-building solutions. The service culminates in a build-ready design package handed to the construction team — or to the client's own contractor.
// Who it's for
Built for these infrastructure users.
- MNOs planning their own site builds who need Ghana permitting expertise
- Enterprise campuses commissioning IBS or tower infrastructure
- Landlords and property developers seeking pre-approval for tower hosting
- Foreign tower companies entering Ghana who need local knowledge
// How it works
The shared-infrastructure model explained.
Many development tasks can be shared across operators on the same candidate site. African Towers conducts one geotechnical investigation, one planning application and one RF survey — results shared across all future colocators, dramatically reducing the per-operator cost of site development.
// Process
From brief to live — every stage managed.
-
01
Coverage analysis and site selection — RF propagation modelling, traffic analysis, candidate site ranking and landowner initial approach.
-
02
Regulatory and environmental assessment — NCA frequency coordination, EPA screening, Metropolitan/District Assembly pre-application engagement.
-
03
Geotechnical investigation — soil bearing capacity, groundwater, seismic risk; structural foundation design.
-
04
Civil and structural design — compound layout, access road, fencing, foundation drawings, tower/steelwork structural calculations.
-
05
RF/DAS design — indoor propagation survey, DAS system design (head-end, combiner, splitters, antenna positions, cable routing), operator integration plan.
// Proof points
Performance you can hold us to.
- 250+ sites developed and permitted across all 16 Ghana regions
- In-house RF and structural design team — no outsourced design risk
- Established NCA and local authority relationships — faster permitting
- Geotechnical and environmental assessment capability in-house
- ISO-quality design documentation — accepted by all Ghana MNOs
Frequently asked questions
- What does site development include?
- Site development covers everything from identifying a candidate location to handing over a build-ready package. African Towers handles coverage and RF analysis, landowner negotiation, all regulatory permitting (NCA, local authority, EPA), geotechnical investigation, civil and structural design, and RF or DAS system design. You receive a complete approved package — you don't need to coordinate multiple specialist sub-contractors.
- How do you handle permitting for new tower sites in Ghana?
- African Towers manages NCA spectrum and antenna permits, Metropolitan or District Assembly planning applications, Environmental Protection Agency screening (and full EIA where required), and heritage authority consultation where applicable. Our team has handled permitting across all 16 Ghana regions and maintains working relationships with the relevant bodies, reducing approval timelines.
- What is RF design and why does it matter?
- RF (radio frequency) design determines where antennas are placed, at what height, azimuth and tilt, to achieve a target coverage footprint with minimum interference. For in-building DAS, it involves indoor propagation measurements, coverage simulation and system design to ensure every part of the building meets the coverage threshold. Poor RF design is the primary cause of IBS underperformance; African Towers' in-house design team commissions each system with drive-test and walk-test acceptance criteria.
- Can you develop sites for clients who want to build their own tower?
- Yes. The Site Development & Design service is offered standalone — African Towers delivers the approved design and permit package, and the client uses their own contractor for construction. We can also provide construction supervision if required. The full BTS programme is available if the client prefers African Towers to own and operate the completed site.
